What Is a WhatsApp Quality Rating?

Also called: Phone number quality rating, WhatsApp quality score, Number qualityUpdated

Quality rating
A quality rating is Meta’s green (high), yellow (medium) or red (low) rating of a WhatsApp business phone number on the WhatsApp Business Platform. It is based on feedback, such as blocks and reports, from the people who received that number’s messages over the past 7 days.

How does Meta rate a WhatsApp business number?

Meta gives each business phone number on the WhatsApp Business Platform a quality rating of green (high), yellow (medium) or red (low). The rating reflects feedback from the people who received the number’s messages over the past 7 days, including how many of them blocked the number or reported it (Meta Business Help Center).

Because the window is only 7 days, the rating can change within days in either direction. A batch of unwanted messages can pull it down quickly, and a number that stops the behavior and keeps sending messages people welcome can see it improve. Treat the rating as a trend to watch rather than a formula to game.

RatingWhat it tells you
Green (high)Few recipients blocked or reported the number in the past 7 days
Yellow (medium)Negative feedback is rising; review what you are sending and to whom
Red (low)Many recipients blocked or reported the number; stop and fix the cause before Meta limits or removes access

What affects a quality rating?

The rating is driven by what recipients do after your message arrives, so the inputs are the things that make people block or report a business:

  • Messaging people who did not opt in. WhatsApp’s Business Messaging Policy allows you to contact someone only if they gave you their phone number or username and you received their opt-in permission (WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy). Cold outreach is the fastest route to a red rating.
  • Ignoring opt-outs. The same policy requires you to honor requests to stop. Messaging someone after they asked you to stop invites a report.
  • Volume and timing. Bursts of similar messages to many people look like spam to recipients, whatever the content. Sending in small batches, 5–10 messages at a time, and spreading sends over the day gives people a chance to reply and keeps feedback healthy.
  • Message content. Vague, irrelevant or overly promotional messages, and marketing templates sent to people who only expected order updates, draw blocks. Clear, expected, useful messages do not.
  • Response behavior. A number that answers replies promptly keeps conversations two-way and useful to the recipient. One-way blasts with no human behind them are more likely to be blocked or reported.

How are quality rating and messaging limits connected?

Messaging limits cap how many unique WhatsApp users a business portfolio can message outside a customer service window in a moving 24-hour period. New portfolios start at 250 unique users and can scale to 2,000, 10,000, 100,000 or unlimited, and the limit is shared by all numbers in the portfolio (Meta documentation).

Meta documents quality rating and messaging limits together, and its Business Messaging Policy says WhatsApp may limit or remove access for messaging people at scale in an unauthorized manner (WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy). A falling quality rating is an early sign that recipients see your sends that way. Messaging only opted-in people protects both your rating and your access to the Platform.

Does a QR-linked WhatsApp number have a quality rating?

Quality rating is a feature of the official WhatsApp Business Platform. A WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app number connected to whatsappx.si by scanning a QR code uses WhatsApp’s linked-device feature, like WhatsApp Web, so Meta does not show it a green, yellow or red rating.

The same recipient behavior still matters, though. WhatsApp states that its products are not intended for bulk or automated messaging and that doing so violates its Terms of Service, and it may act on accounts that message people at scale in an unauthorized manner (WhatsApp Help Center). Blocks and reports against any number, linked or not, can lead WhatsApp to restrict or block it. For a QR-linked number, follow these rules: if you create a brand-new WhatsApp number, use it normally for 15–20 days before you connect it; send 5–10 messages at a time, never bulk blasts; and message only people who opted in. Otherwise WhatsApp may restrict or block the number.

How does whatsappx.si help you keep a healthy rating?

With whatsappx.si you scan a QR code to connect the WhatsApp you already have, and your whole team replies from one shared inbox, which keeps conversations two-way and answered. Chats can be assigned to a teammate so nobody is left waiting, and keyword-triggered auto-replies answer common questions today. AI-written replies are coming soon. If you need the official route, you can also connect numbers through Meta’s WhatsApp Business Platform with Embedded Signup in the app and sync your message templates with Meta. whatsappx.si does not offer bulk broadcast campaigns, by design.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take for a WhatsApp quality rating to recover?
The rating is based on recipient feedback from the past 7 days, so a number that stops sending unwanted messages and keeps messaging only opted-in people can move from red or yellow back toward green within about a week. There is no guaranteed recovery time, and WhatsApp may limit access for numbers that keep messaging people without permission, so fix the cause rather than waiting it out.
Can a low quality rating get my WhatsApp number banned?
A low rating is a warning sign rather than a ban. It shows that recipients are blocking or reporting your number, and the same behavior that causes it, such as messaging people without opt-in or sending in bulk, can lead Meta to reduce messaging limits or restrict the number under its Business Messaging Policy. If that happens, it is resolved between you and Meta; whatsappx.si cannot restore an account.
Does the quality rating apply to the WhatsApp Business app?
No. Quality rating is a WhatsApp Business Platform (Cloud API) feature for business phone numbers registered with Meta. The WhatsApp Business app and numbers linked by QR code as linked devices have no visible rating, but WhatsApp still acts on blocks and reports against any number. Use a new number normally for 15–20 days before linking it, and send 5–10 messages at a time, never bulk blasts.
What is the fastest way to improve a WhatsApp quality rating?
Stop messaging anyone who did not opt in, honor every opt-out immediately, and send only messages people expect, such as replies, order updates and reminders they asked for. Send in small batches of 5–10 messages and reply promptly when people write back. Because Meta looks at the past 7 days of feedback, consistent behavior over a week or two usually shows up in the rating.
Can I see the quality rating inside whatsappx.si?
No. Meta reports the quality rating for numbers on the WhatsApp Business Platform in its own business tools, and whatsappx.si does not display it. whatsappx.si helps you keep it healthy by letting your team answer every conversation from one shared inbox, assign chats so nothing goes unanswered, and use keyword-triggered auto-replies for common questions, without bulk broadcast features.
