WhatsApp Business Platform
The WhatsApp Business Platform is Meta’s offering that lets medium and large businesses message customers at scale through programmatic access to WhatsApp, mainly the Meta-hosted Cloud API, instead of the phone-based WhatsApp Business app.

What is the WhatsApp Business Platform?

The WhatsApp Business Platform is Meta’s product for businesses that want to send and receive WhatsApp messages from software rather than from a phone. Meta describes it as the way for medium and large businesses to “chat with customers at scale through programmatic access to WhatsApp”, in contrast to the WhatsApp Business app, which is built for small businesses working from a single device (Meta, WhatsApp Business FAQ).

Today the platform is used mainly through the Cloud API, which Meta hosts; Meta retired the older On-Premises API in October 2025 (Meta, On-Premises API sunset). Your software calls the API to send messages and receives incoming messages through webhooks. By default a business phone number can send up to 80 messages per second (Meta, About the platform).

Access comes directly from Meta or through partners: Solution Partners (often called BSPs) can bill clients themselves, while Tech Providers offer similar services and their clients pay Meta directly (Meta, Solution Providers overview).

What rules come with the platform?

  • Customer service window. A 24-hour timer starts when a customer messages you and resets each time they write again. While it is open you can send free-form replies; after it closes, only approved templates go out (Meta, Send messages).
  • Message templates. Pre-approved formats in the categories marketing, utility and authentication; review can take up to 24 hours (Meta, Templates overview).
  • Messaging limits. A cap on unique users a business portfolio can message outside the window in a moving 24-hour period, starting low and scaling up (Meta, Messaging limits).
  • Quality rating. Green, yellow or red per number, based on blocks and reports over the past 7 days (Meta Business Help).
  • Per-message pricing. Meta charges per delivered message by category and recipient market. Since October 1, 2026, service messages (free-form replies inside the window) are also charged after a free tier of 1,000 per business phone number per month (Meta, Pricing).

Can you use the app and the platform on the same number?

Yes, through what Meta calls coexistence. With Embedded Signup, the WhatsApp Business app keeps handling 1:1 chats while a partner app uses the Cloud API on the same number, with chat history in sync. Throughput is fixed at 20 messages per second, broadcast lists are disabled and companion devices are unlinked during setup (Meta, Onboarding Business app users).

How does whatsappx.si use the WhatsApp Business Platform?

The quickest way to start with whatsappx.si is to scan a QR code with the WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app you already have. This uses WhatsApp’s linked-device feature, and recent chat history syncs in. A phone can have up to four linked devices, and they log out if the phone goes unused for more than 14 days (WhatsApp Help Center, linked devices).

The official platform is an additional way to connect: you add a number through Meta Embedded Signup inside the app, verify the phone number, connect several Meta numbers to one workspace and create message templates that sync with Meta.

Either way, chats land in one shared inbox, so your whole team can reply from one place and assign chats to teammates. Keyword auto-replies are available today; AI replies are coming soon. A REST API and webhooks are also available for developers. Meta’s per-message fees apply only to messages sent from official-platform numbers; check Meta’s pricing page for current rates.

Which should you choose: QR linking or the platform?

Choose QR linking when you already have a number, volume is modest and you mostly reply to people who contact you. Choose the platform when you need approved templates after the 24-hour window, more than one number, or automation at scale; that is the route Meta sanctions for volume.

Either way, protect the number. If it is brand new, use it normally for 15–20 days before connecting it. Send 5–10 messages at a time, never bulk blasts, and only message people who agreed to hear from you. Meta’s policy requires opt-in and lets WhatsApp limit or remove access for messaging people at scale in an unauthorized manner (WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy).

Frequently asked questions

Is the WhatsApp Business Platform the same as the WhatsApp Business API?
In everyday use, yes. “WhatsApp Business API” is the older name people still search for; Meta now calls the product the WhatsApp Business Platform and the hosted interface the Cloud API. For a new connection, including the one inside whatsappx.si, “the platform” means the Cloud API in practice, with Meta hosting the infrastructure.
Is the WhatsApp Business Platform free?
No. Meta charges per delivered message, with rates that depend on the category (marketing, utility, authentication or service) and the recipient’s market. Since October 1, 2026, service replies are charged after a free tier of 1,000 delivered service messages per business phone number each month. Messages customers send you are free. Software built on top, such as a shared inbox, usually has its own subscription. Check Meta’s pricing page for current rates.
Do I need a BSP to use the platform?
Not necessarily. Meta offers access directly as well as through partners, and whatsappx.si uses Meta Embedded Signup so you can connect an official number from inside the app. Solution Partners (often called BSPs) remain useful if you want a partner to handle billing, credit lines or integration work for you. Tech Providers offer similar services, but their clients add their own payment method.
Can I keep using the WhatsApp Business app after joining the platform?
Yes, through Meta’s coexistence feature. The app keeps working for 1:1 chats while a partner tool uses the Cloud API on the same number, and recent chat history syncs between them. Some things change: throughput is fixed at 20 messages per second, broadcast lists are disabled and companion devices are unlinked during setup.
Can my number be blocked on the platform?
Yes. WhatsApp enforces its Business Messaging Policy on platform numbers through quality ratings, messaging limits and, in serious cases, restrictions. Message only people who opted in, honor opt-outs and send in small batches. If WhatsApp restricts a number, that is between you and Meta; whatsappx.si is not responsible and cannot restore an account.
