What Is a Tech Provider (WhatsApp)?

Also called: Meta Tech Provider, WhatsApp Tech ProviderUpdated

Tech Provider
A Tech Provider is a business that offers WhatsApp Business Platform services to other businesses, much like a Solution Partner (BSP), but without extending credit lines. Its clients add their own payment method with Meta after onboarding, so Meta bills them directly for messages.

What does a Tech Provider do?

A Tech Provider builds software on Meta’s WhatsApp Business Platform and onboards other businesses onto it, typically through Meta Embedded Signup. Meta describes Tech Providers as offering services similar to a Solution Partner, without credit lines: after onboarding, each client adds their own payment method to their business portfolio (Meta documentation).

In practice, that means the Tech Provider supplies the product, such as an inbox, automations or an API layer, while Meta keeps the direct billing relationship with the client for per-message fees.

How is a Tech Provider different from a Solution Partner (BSP)?

The difference is money and who stands between you and Meta. A Solution Partner, often still called a Business Solution Provider or BSP, is a Meta Business Partner that provides a full range of platform services (messaging, billing, integration support and customer support). Solution Partners can extend credit lines to clients and invoice them directly (Meta documentation). A Tech Provider does not extend credit, so Meta charges the client’s own payment method.

Every route gives you the same WhatsApp Business Platform features: approved templates for messaging outside the 24-hour customer service window, webhooks, messaging limits and quality ratings. Meta charges per delivered message, with rates that depend on the message category and the recipient’s market (Meta documentation).

Some messaging platforms also run programs for software vendors that build on top of them. As of October 2026, for example, Twilio documents a WhatsApp Tech Provider Program for ISVs that use Meta’s Embedded Signup (Twilio documentation).

Does the Tech Provider model change who pays Meta?

Yes, and that is the main practical difference. With a Tech Provider, you keep a direct billing relationship with Meta: the payment method lives on your business portfolio, and Meta’s invoices come to you. With a Solution Partner, the partner can extend a credit line and invoice you for Meta’s fees itself. If your Sold-To country with Meta is India, note that Meta launched INR billing on January 1, 2026, and eligible businesses must move every WhatsApp Business Account in their portfolio to INR by December 31, 2026 (Meta documentation).

How does this relate to whatsappx.si?

whatsappx.si is a shared WhatsApp inbox for teams. You scan a QR code with the WhatsApp you already have, which uses WhatsApp’s linked-device feature (WhatsApp Help Center), and your whole team replies from one inbox. Keyword-triggered auto-replies are available today; AI-written replies are coming soon.

Meta’s official WhatsApp Business Platform is an additional option. When you need approved templates, high volume or automation at scale, you can add a number through it using Meta Embedded Signup inside the app. Meta charges its own messaging fees for official numbers and bills them separately; they are not part of a whatsappx.si plan.

Frequently asked questions

Is a Tech Provider the same as a BSP?
No. Both offer WhatsApp Business Platform services to other businesses, but a Solution Partner (the role most people call a BSP) can extend credit lines and invoice clients for Meta’s fees. A Tech Provider cannot: its clients add their own payment method with Meta after onboarding and are billed by Meta directly for every delivered message.
Do I need a Tech Provider or Solution Partner to use the WhatsApp Business Platform?
Not necessarily. Meta says businesses can access the platform directly or through Solution Partners and Tech Providers. Going direct means building on the Cloud API yourself. A provider or partner adds ready-made software, such as a shared inbox, templates and automations, and usually a simpler onboarding flow through Meta Embedded Signup.
Who do I pay when I connect through a Tech Provider?
Two parties. Meta bills its per-message fees to the payment method on your business portfolio, at rates set by message category and the recipient’s market. The Tech Provider bills its own software subscription separately. Unlike a Solution Partner, a Tech Provider does not front Meta’s costs or invoice you for them.
How does whatsappx.si connect to WhatsApp?
whatsappx.si is a shared inbox for teams. You can scan a QR code to link the WhatsApp number you already have, or add numbers through Meta’s official WhatsApp Business Platform with Embedded Signup inside the app. For official numbers, Meta bills its messaging fees separately, outside any whatsappx.si plan. whatsappx.si is independent and not affiliated with WhatsApp or Meta.
What happens if Meta restricts a number I connected through a provider?
Meta applies its policies, messaging limits and quality ratings to your WhatsApp Business Account, whichever provider you use, and any restriction is handled between you and Meta. whatsappx.si is not responsible for account restrictions and cannot restore an account. Follow WhatsApp’s Business and Commerce Policies, message only people who opted in, and send in small batches of 5–10 messages, never in bulk.
